AI Agent or Copilot: Who Owns the Next Action?
Distinguish independent execution from employee assistance.
Distinguish independent execution from employee assistance.
For product, support and technical buyers
Use behavior rather than labels
A copilot commonly assists a person who reviews or completes the work. An agent may carry out a defined task with less intervention. Vendors use these terms differently, so describe the actual permissions, review points and expected result instead of relying on the name.
Locate the decision and action
For a reply, ask who approves the text. For a transaction, ask who authorizes the change and which system executes it. A generated suggestion, a sent message and an account update have different consequences and should be evaluated separately.
Match autonomy to the workflow
A well-documented informational question may suit more automation than a disputed transaction. Define when the system must stop, request information or involve a person. Require a clear record of what happened and a recovery path for important changes.
Measure the human work that remains
Track review, editing, corrections and escalations. A copilot can still produce useful time savings, while an agent can create hidden rework. Compare the completed outcome and total effort rather than treating autonomy itself as the benefit.
Describe Instaconnect accurately
Instaconnect’s content-grounded bot, human handoff and supported summaries serve specific assistance workflows. The AI agent label should not imply autonomous refunds, order changes or account actions. Verify each proposed capability against current documentation and a representative pilot.
